Since 2007, Solaris Piano Trio has performed for numerous weddings, galas, and concerts throughout Vancouver. The local ensemble consists of violinist George Chung, cellist Jaewon Jerry Yon, and pianist Vincent Lo, all of whom are founding members of Simon Fraser University Chamber Orchestra (SFUCO) and have been close friends since childhood. Vancouver-born composer, pianist and arranger Vincent Lo has composed over 50 works for piano, chamber ensemble, and voice. Vincent currently majors in Computing Science at SFU, with a concentration in multimedia and user-interface design, while minoring in music composition at the School of Contemporary Arts. As co-founder of the SFU Chamber Orchestra, Vincent contributes semesterly as in-house composer with large-scale Baroque-inspired works: his latest compositions include Orchestral Suite in G Major (2012), Concerto Grosso in F Major (2011), and Violin concerto in a minor (2010). He is also the founder of Audiomuse, a web development and design collective.
Vancouver-based pianist and violinist George Chung is no stranger to DNA and genetics. He graduated from SFU with first-class honours in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry in 2008. During his time at SFU, he co-founded the SFU Chamber Orchestra (SFUCO), serving as its first concertmaster, and Club for the Cure, serving as its first club secretary. He is currently a PhD student at the University of British Columbia in the field of Medical Genetics, but he has stayed true to his musical roots: he holds Associateships of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto for piano and violin and is the regular accompanist for the eclectic Coastal Sound Youth Choir under the direction of Carrie Tennant. He continues to make music with Solaris Piano Trio and the SFUCO.
South Korean-born Canadian cellist and founder of SFU Chamber Orchestra, Jaewon has performed with numerous orchestras in BC including the Burnaby Symphony, New Westminster Symphony, BC Chamber and the Port Moody String orchestra. Jaewon gave his first recital at age 10 and by the time he was 18, he has received 1st place in variety of music competitions and festivals in British Columbia. Jaewon currently majors in Biology, with a concentration in molecular cell physiology. Jaewon also is the current president of Association of Korean-Canadian Scientists and engineers (SFU Chapter) and has been a past executive member of SFU club for the cure, and the SFU Ballroom dance club. Recently, Jaewon has been nominated by the SFSS into the Student Space Oversight Committee and will take part in variety of renovation projects up at SFU.
